Some projects arrive with a clear brief and a tight timeline. This was one of them.

The clients — a couple in Collaroy with a newly renovated deck — wanted a custom outdoor kitchen that could handle weekly dinner parties, keep up with their love of cooking, and look like it belonged in a magazine. They had six weeks before a landmark birthday party.

The Brief

•Straight run layout along a 4.2m wall

The Challenge

The deck had an existing pergola with steel posts at fixed positions — which meant the cabinet run had to work around a post sitting right in the middle of the intended kitchen wall. Rather than compromise the design, we built a purpose-made corner storage unit around the post, turning a constraint into a feature.

The Process

Week 1–2: Design approval, material ordering, manufacturing begins in our Sydney workshop.

Week 3–4: Cabinets built and finished. Benchtop templated and cut by our stone supplier.

Week 5: Installation day. Cabinets delivered and set, benchtop installed, BBQ and fridge connected, sink plumbed.

Week 6: Final inspection, client walkthrough, and handover — three days before the birthday party.

The Result

The kitchen became the centrepiece of the deck and the birthday party was, by all accounts, exceptional. The client's feedback:

"It's exactly what we had in our heads, but better. The stone is beautiful, the doors are perfect, and we've used it every single weekend since. Genuinely the best money we've spent on the house."
